In the spring of 2025, the Hong Kong Arts Centre’s Comix Home Base brought “A Visual Voyage: Hong Kong and Scenes – Hong Kong Comics × Movie Exhibition” to the Insa Art Center in Insadong. The exhibition blended Hong Kong comics, film stills, and AR-animated experiences to explore iconic Hong Kong locations through the lens of visual storytelling. One of the highlights was a series of large lenticular pieces that blended the artists’ original illustrations with still frames from the corresponding movies — creating a dynamic visual effect that shifted depending on the viewer’s angle. The event also featured a live art jam with artists Kyutae Lee, Pearl Law and ZIPCY, fostering a collaborative and engaging atmosphere. Additionally, acclaimed Hong Kong author YUYI gave a talk sharing exploring the interplay between storytelling mediums and had a dialogue with veteran Korean film critic Sungchul Joo.
I was honored to be commissioned by the Hong Kong Arts Centre to photograph the exhibition and accompanying events — my second time working with them since their exhibit at Dongdaemun Design Plaza. Below are some of my favorite highlights from the event.
