A portrait is typically defined as a pictorial representation of a person usually showing the face. While I agree with this, I also like to think that a portrait can go beyond just the face. Details, emotions, environment, and so many other things can make a portrait and tell you who someone is. This was the mentality going into Ana’s graduation shoot at the KAIST campus in Daejeon. I not only photographed her expressions, which were totally ecstatic about finishing her studies, but also her tattoos, special items that she brought along, as well as buildings and structures significant to her during her time at school. Our time together was short, but I’m happy I got to know more about her and her story, and capture a bit of that in photos.
