A few months back, I had the opportunity to do a couple of assignments for UK-based Car Design News. They had an ongoing project with Hyundai and Kia, which are of course the largest car manufacturers in South Korea. My assignment was to make portraits of a couple of the companies’ top designers for an upcoming publication.
My first stop was the Hyundai Motor Studio in Gangnam, Seoul to shoot some portraits of Hyundai’s Global Head of Design, Sangyup Lee. He is one of the key people behind the recent Genesis designs, as well as the latest IONIQ 5 electric vehicle. I am a fan of the designs of both of these lines and it was a pleasure working with the man behind them.

The next assignment brought me over to the city of Hwaseong, just south of Seoul. That is the location of the Kia Design Center, where I had the pleasure of working with Kia Motors Director of Exterior Design, Teckkoun Kim. Mr. Kim is the man behind the company’s first dedicated electric vehicle, the EV6. It was unreleased at the time and I was kind of blown away by the car’s design. He also brought along a Kia Sportage, which was another one of the milestone projects in his career.

These two projects definitely stand out as some of my favorites in recent memory. Need a photographer in Seoul, Busan, or anywhere in South Korea? Please get in touch!
